Something began to tilt
differently when we rolled over
to look at a screen rather than
take in the morning silence.
And by the numbers, mostly everyone
has felt the strangeness
of watching life through a small window,
people getting their dreams
while you’re still in two-day-old pajamas.
The thing is is that there is
no collective time
and everyone can't be aligned all at once —
it’s the myth of modern life.
Unless you’re speaking of the show
of nature, how everything is now
and you just happened to be there:
the way a flock of birds
separates in the sky —
like a hand spreading its fingers.
It feels as though Someone plucked me up
and placed me at the North West corner
and I never stopped to ask if I had a say in the matter.
